Inside were climbing tools, personal possessions, and various items that clearly belonged to someone who loved mountaineering.
The moment she saw them, tears filled her eyes.
“These belonged to my grandfather,” she said softly. “Ten years ago he left on a mountain climbing expedition and never returned. We searched for years.”
Paul was stunned.
“Did anyone ever find him?”
She slowly shook her head.
“No. We never discovered what happened.”
Paul paused before asking another question.
“Do you think the abandoned car belonged to him?”
Veronica shook her head again.
“My grandfather didn’t own a car.”
She looked thoughtfully at the contents of the box.
“But I think I know why these items ended up there.”
Paul listened carefully.
“Shortly after my grandfather disappeared, a man contacted my grandmother. He said he had discovered my grandfather’s belongings at the expedition’s base camp.”
She pointed to the box.
“These are those belongings.”
“What happened afterward?” Paul asked.
“He promised he would deliver everything personally,” Veronica explained. “But he never showed up. After that, we never heard from him again.”

“I’m sorry for what your family went through,” Paul said sincerely. “At least now you have something that belonged to him.”
Veronica wiped away tears and smiled.

“So what brought you into that forest in the first place?”
Paul smiled.
“Photography. It’s what I love most. I’m trying to build a portfolio so I can eventually work as a professional photographer.”
Veronica’s eyes brightened immediately.
“Really? That’s interesting.”
She thought for a moment.
“My uncle Stewart owns a company that’s currently looking for photographers. I could introduce you.”
Paul could hardly believe what he was hearing.
“Seriously? That would be incredible.”
A few days later, Paul found himself sitting inside Stewart’s office.
His portfolio rested on the desk as Stewart carefully examined each photograph.
Several minutes passed before the businessman finally looked up.
“These are excellent, Paul.”
Paul sat forward nervously.
“You think so?”
“Absolutely,” Stewart replied. “You have a remarkable eye for detail and composition. We could definitely use someone with your talent.”
Paul could barely contain his excitement.
“Are you offering me a position?”
Stewart smiled.
“I am.”
Paul’s eyes widened.
“I’d love to join your team.”
“Excellent,” Stewart said. “We’ll discuss the details soon, but I can already tell you the salary will be significantly better than your current job.”
When Paul left the office, he felt as though he were floating.
