She thought about planting tomatoes.

She tilted her face toward the sun, that sun she had never seen and knew completely.

And she breathed.

Inside her chest, in the deep place where the visions lived, everything was quiet.

Not empty.

Quiet.

She smiled, small, private, entirely her own.

She had not become like him.

That was enough.

That was everything.
