PART 5 — The Nursing Home Visit

One afternoon Ana suggested something unexpected.

“Javier,” she said, “do you remember the nursing home we donated to?”

“Of course.”

“I’d like to visit.”

The nursing home was located at the edge of the neighborhood, in an old brick building surrounded by tall pine trees.

Inside, the atmosphere was quiet but warm.

Some elderly residents sat reading.

Others watched television.

A few simply stared out the windows.

When the director learned that Ana and Javier were the ones who had donated money anonymously, she insisted on showing them around.

“You helped us repair the heating system,” she explained gratefully.

“This winter would have been very difficult without that.”

Ana felt tears in her eyes.

She had never expected their small donation to make such a difference.

Before leaving, they spent time talking with several residents.

One old woman held Ana’s hand and said softly:

“You remind me of my daughter.”

Another man told Javier stories about his youth.

When they finally walked back outside, the air felt fresh and bright.

Javier squeezed Ana’s hand.

“You were right,” he said.

“Helping others makes this gift feel real.”

 PART 6 — The Armchair’s New Meaning

The armchair slowly became the heart of their home.

Not because of the money it had once hidden.

But because of the story it carried.

Every time someone visited, Ana told them how she had found it near the trash containers.

How they had opened it.

How they had discovered the hidden compartment.

And most importantly…

how they had chosen to use the money.

The grandchildren loved sitting in it.

They called it “the magic chair.”

But Ana always corrected them gently.

“It’s not magic,” she would say.

“It’s a reminder.”

“A reminder of what?” the youngest grandchild once asked.

Ana smiled.

“That good things sometimes appear in the most unexpected places.”
