You walk into a hotel room after a long day, set down your bags, and notice a strip of fabric stretched neatly across the foot of the bed. Many guests assume this piece, often called a bed runner or bed scarf, is simply decorative. In reality, it serves several practical purposes that help keep hotel rooms cleaner, more functional, and more comfortable.

One of the main roles of a bed runner is protection. When guests arrive, they are often still wearing travel clothes or shoes.
