**Pita bread (Arabic bread)**

📖 History & fun facts
Pita bread is over 4,000 years old and is believed to have originated in the Middle East, specifically in ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia 🇪🇬🇮🇶.
It was a bread of survival and community: easy to bake in clay ovens, quick to cook, and long-lasting. Its famous “inner pocket” forms when heat separates the dough into two layers, creating the perfect space to fill with meats, vegetables, or sauces 🥙.

Today it’s a staple of the Mediterranean diet and a symbol of unity and tradition. Each culture has its own name for it: pita in Greece, khubz in Arabic, baladi in Egypt, and lafah in Israel.
