Today the calendar says it’s my birthday.
But there’s no cake. No candles. No party.
There’s a heavy uniform.
The sound of the siren.
And a responsibility that never waits.
While many celebrate another year of life,
I spend this day protecting lives
that I may never see again.
I don’t know whose door I’ll knock on tonight.
I don’t know whose life I’ll change in minutes.
But I do know why I’m here.
Because there are gifts that don’t need wrapping.
Sacrifices that go unnoticed.
And birthdays that are lived
so that others can see a new dawn.
Saving lives…
It’s not just my job.
It’s my purpose.
Happy birthday, kid. I wish you all the best. I have children and grandchildren who also work in security, and I always think of them. That’s why seeing you so young, risking your life, reminds me of my grandchildren. A hug, and I hope you have the best time possible. God bless you.
